Nkubu Consolata Hospital has stepped up efforts to expand kidney-care services, holding a major renal awareness walk to mobilise support for the completion of its renal unit and acquisition of dialysis machines.

The walk, which started in Meru Town and ended at Nkubu, brought together health workers, community members and other stakeholders in a campaign aimed at raising awareness about kidney disease and the need for accessible specialised care.

South Imenti MP Dr. Shadrack Mwiti joined the initiative and pledged his support towards the renal project, saying improved healthcare services remain a key priority in his development agenda for the people of South Imenti.
The initiative is being implemented through a partnership between Nkubu Consolata Hospital and Capital Sacco, with efforts focused on mobilising resources to equip the renal unit and secure additional dialysis machines.
Hospital officials called on residents to embrace regular medical check-ups, stressing that early detection and timely treatment are critical in managing kidney-related complications and preventing disease progression.
Once completed and fully equipped, the renal unit is expected to bring specialised kidney-care services closer to residents of South Imenti and neighbouring areas, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances in search of dialysis and other renal services.
